Case Study – Lock Changes for Schools

School lock replacement Sussex & HampshireOver 40 Locks & One Key – A Complete Security Upgrade for a Local School

We recently completed a major lock and key security upgrade for a local school. This helped to improve security, simplify key management and give staff controlled access throughout the premises.

With over 40 locks across the school, this was a project that required careful planning and preparation.

Stage 1 – Site Survey & Consultation

We began with a comprehensive site survey, inspecting and recording all the existing locks throughout the school.

We then met with the school’s senior leadership team to understand their security concerns, operational requirements and which areas each member of staff needed to access.

Stage 2 – Planning & Preparation

Using the information gathered, we created a detailed lock and key matrix, identifying exactly which keys should operate which doors.

We also prepared a full schedule of works, ensuring everything was organised in advance. This enabled the installation to be completed smoothly and efficiently, with minimal disruption.

Importantly, we planned for future expansion from the outset. The master key system was designed so that additional locks can be incorporated into the existing suite as the school’s requirements change, without needing to replace the entire system.

Stage 3 – Installation & Security Upgrades

The installation work was carried out in late October 2026, resulting in:

  • passkey
One Key Per Staff Member We linked over 40 locks into a master key system, allowing each staff member to carry just ONE key that opens all the areas they’re authorised to access.
  • admin_panel_settings
Restricted Key System Keys cannot be freely duplicated, helping prevent unauthorised copies and giving the school greater control over key security.
  • shield_lock
British Standard High-Security Locks We ensured all the locks fitted featured anti-snap, anti-pick, anti-drill and anti-bump protection, for enhanced security.
  • door_open
Clutch Cam Cylinders With Martyn’s Law and the school’s wider security arrangements in mind, we fitted clutch cam mechanisms where suitable.

  • encrypted_add
Future-Proofed System The lock suite has been designed with spare capacity, so future doors and locks can be incorporated whilst maintaining the existing key hierarchy and access permissions.
  • key_vertical
Simplified Key Management No more carrying large bunches of keys and trying to figure out the right one! There are now clear access permissions for individual staff members.

The Result

The project resulted in a practical, scaleable long-term security solution, with a much more streamlined process for the staff.
